Some are famous quotes and others are thoughts about bosses. You can use these quotes to mark the special occasion of Bosses Day. Where did this observance all start. Boss's Day (also known as Bosses Day or National Boss Day) is a secular holiday celebrated on October 16 in the United States and Canada. It has traditionally been a day for employees to thank their boss for being kind and fair throughout the year. National Boss Day was started in 1958 by Patricia Bays Haroski, and registered the holiday with the Chamber of Commerce. She designated October 16 as the special boss day because it was her father's birthday. Ms. Haroski's purpose was to designate a day to show appreciation for her boss and other bosses. She also hoped to improve the relationship between employees and supervisors. She believed young employees often do not realize the challenges bosses face in running a business. Being a boss isn't always easy due to the demands constantly placed on them including: operational deadlines, financial planning and accountability, employee relations including employee development, changing work place policies that need to be implemented with the support of employees, the push to do more with less, and the pressure of pleasing a multitude of people including customers of many kinds. Sometimes, you find a boss who is unreasonable or plays favourites or is rude and condescending. Hopefully these kind of supervisors or managers will not last long and be weeded out according to more advanced management thinking.
